Dine In at the Cottage

The Barossa has a very deep food culture, much like its wine. Local historian and author, Angela Heuzenroeder set about to ensure the Barossa’s food culture is documented for generations to come by publishing a best selling book "Barossa Food", which comprises lists of the foods she knew local people had been making for generations.
The book highlights the history of commonly used food preparation techniques such as smoking, pickling and fermenting in typical Barossa cooking, with some of the dishes in Angela's book date back to the 1840s.
Angela recognised ".... that visitors and locals alike needed to be reminded about the traditional food of the region and the world needed to know about them before they disappeared... Due to a strong sense of regional identity coming from its distinctive European culture, its shared festivals and its unifying wine industry, the Barossa could lay a very strong claim to having a continuing regional cuisine starting from the earliest white settlement - and was probably the only place in Australia that could do so."
