The Experience
You don't need to travel to Europe to feed the geese, wander amongst the vines, try some fantastic local cheeses, stay in a heritage cottage and taste some of the world's best wine.......it's all here at Seppeltsfield Vineyard Cottage on Greenock Creek in the Barossa Valley!
Awaken each day in your own cottage to the silence and fresh air of the vine covered countryside. Read about the lives of the family who laughed, worked and played in your cottage over 150 years ago.....imagine Bertha waving Andreas goodbye each day as he left to walk to work at Seppeltsfield Winery across the creek where it still stands today, as grand as ever.
Enjoy breakfast under the verandah and watch the morning sunlight dance on the vineyard while listening to the kookaburras laugh - the geese may well wander across the lawn to say good morning! The double smoked bacon from the local Barossa butcher, eggs from our hens and an espresso will set you up for a serious day of exploring the Barossa.
Or, simply lay on the sun lounges and gaze over the hills, listen to some music and curl up with the latest Gourmet Traveller magazine.
Take the time to experience our Seize the Day Vineyard Tour and Tasting with Peter. Learn why Barossa grapes and wines are special. Understand the vineyard and taste the wines made from it. Our wines are impressive, rich, smooth, classic Barossa Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon (James Halliday says so!) Climb down the 150 year old steps leading to our personal wine cellar under the cottage and learn about the many other wines produced in the Barossa.
Drive 5 minutes down the road to Maggie Beer's Farmshop for a great coffee or stock up from her stunning array of Barossa gourmet foods. Join her free Verjuice cooking class held each day at 2.00pm! Visit nearby internationally renowned Torbreck Vintners, Greenock Creek Vineyard and Cellars, Two Hands and Whistler Wines for unique wine tasting experiences.
Across the road from the cottage visit historic Seppeltsfield Estate, established in 1851. Experience the heritage tour (complimentary for our guests) where you will learn how Benno and Sophie Seppelt put Australia's wines on the international map in the late 1800s. Sophie Seppelt was an amazing lady. In addition to having 13 surviving children, during vintage she cooked twice a day for over 100 Seppeltsfield employees as well as entertained royalty and heads of state.
Nowhere in the world will you find a 100 year old port as a current release except at Seppeltsfield. This amazing wine has been given 100 points by both Robert J Parker and James Halliday.
When you venture out you will experience sensational scenery, unique Barossa foods and charming wineries. It's then you will realise you need more time in the Barossa.....don't say we didn't warn you....!
In the evening, enjoy a superb gourmet experience at one of our local restaurants...Gourmet Traveller's best South Australian regional restaurant, Appellation, is only a 5 minute drive and we will take you there! Or fire up the BBQ and enjoy some Bratwurst, Kassler rib and wine while you watch the sun set over the vines. If you were really organised when you arranged to visit us, you may have ordered something from our regionally inspired dine-in menu options.....
On a winter's evening, light the fire, pour yourself a glass of Barossa red and watch a DVD from our library, read about Barossa food traditions, play scrabble or plan your future!
Located in historic Seppeltsfield, all Barossa towns are within 10 minutes of your cottage.
Stay and share the experience - you won't be disappointed!
